Acid-staining involves applying a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid, acid stain color and acidic metal salts to old or new concrete floors, patios or other areas. The blend penetrates the surface to react with hydrated lime in concrete (calcium hydroxide). The acid lightly etches the surface, allowing for easier penetration of the metallic salts.
